Will having a plus-one really take away from the regular season that much?
adding a plus one wouldnt really take away meaning because youd still have to win everygame(or only lose 1 or 2) in order to be in the top 4, so it wouldnt do too much to take away meaning. Its not like college basketball where you have a 64 team field, and even there teams that do well during the regular season win. Same with college baseball where teams that do well in the season usually win the college world series. And in college football, cupcakes.vs.powerhouses should count more than a playoff(ex.North Texas.vs.Oklahoma, Georgia Southern.vs.Georgia, Idaho.vs.USC should mean more than a 4 team playoff?). Why dont they just take away the NCAA tourney in college basketball and have had (UNC.vs.Memphis) #1 and #2 for the championship, and a diff game with Kansas.vs.UCLA, Duke.vs.Tennessee and Georgetown.vs.Texas(#2 seeds) instead of the NCAA tourney and the great games they had(an amazing championship game).Would having a plus one really take that much away from the season?
absolutley not.
I can see how a true playoff system could hurt…but having a plus one. That is the perfect compromise. Some will stll bit ch about being left out, but at least one team got an opportunity they would not have gotten otherwise.
Last year would have been Georgia v LSU with USC complaining (among a few others, Kansas would have had a beef, etc…tough). It would have sounded right to me. And while I am not an SEC fan, I would liked to have seen this game.
