can somebody give me tips on what to do when i tryout in high school baseball?
i want to tryout but i need some advice on what to practice with hitting and fielding. i am planning on trying out for CF. also, how do i act with the coaches. please help. i will chose best answer!!
you better be fast if your a center fielder, work on sprints.
with fielding, especially for a center fielder, work on your angles to the ball (ex. your not gonna run at a liner in the gap, your going to run at an angle towards the fence to cut it off in the least amount of distance.) also work on making your first step backwards as an outfielder when reading a ball off that gap. and work on pop flies over the shoulder and directly behind you. (i know this is a lot but you asked for advice and this is all stuff thats going to be in a tryout.) charge grounders, hit your cutoffs (dont just try and show boat and gun it home on a line) Long toss to increase arm strength
When it comes to batting, and this is gonna sound stupid, but TEE WORK is your best friend. even in college we worked off a tee everyday, focusing on driving down and through the ball, creating back spin and hitting it right back up the middle. work some softtoss in focusing on letting the ball get deep into the zone and getting good arm extension through the ball. (antother good drill to do for working on arm extension is to take an old bat, go to a cage, set up like your going to hit and swing/throw your bat back up towards where the pitcher would be. gets your arms extended and keeps you from flying open.)
And when it comes to coaches, ESPECIALLY at a try out, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS say “sir” hustle EVERYWHERE on the field, and do whatever they say, even if its refill the water jugs. Character shows a lot to a coach when he’s deciding on who to cut and who to keep.
