BASEBALL DRAFT RULES
What should be my draft order for my Fantasy Baseball Draft?

These are the positions – C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, LF, CF, RF, OF, Util, SP, SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, RP, RP, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL, DL, DL

And here are the scoring rules R, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, K, TB, E, AVG, OBP, W, L, SV, K, HLD, TB, ERA, WHIP, K/BB, K/9, QS, BSV

Head to head league. You dont need to have a person for every single category, but please help.
Thanks, and this is in the baseball section because you guys are smarter than the NFL and NBA people in the Fantasy Sports Section.

It depends on what pick you have. If you have the first overall pick, you might want Alex Rodriguez (3B), Albert Pujols (1B), Jose Reyes (SS), Hanley Ramirez (SS) or David Wright (3B). If you have the last pick in the first round, those guys will be gone, and you’ll have to buckle down.

Catcher needs to be taken relatively early. Outside of the top five catchers (McCann, Soto, Martin, Mauer, Doumit…yes, I said Ryan Doumit of the Pirates), the herd thins out quickly.

There are many infielders out there, but SS and 2B are the thinnest of the infield positions. After Reyes, Ramirez, and Rollins, the SS position declines a lot (players left?: Stephen Drew, Michael Young, and Troy Tulowitzki are the next guys to go)

There are many OF, and unless you want to grab Carlos Beltran, Manny Ramirez, or Ichiro very VERY early on, you might want to hold back on the position. You can grab a good-hitting OF for cheap in the 5th round or later (think: Nick Markakis, Bobby Abreu, Matt Kemp). There will also be a lot of free agent OF once the season begins.

SP are plentiful, but (obviously) the good ones will be gone early. You can still find good #2 or #3 closers in the middle of the draft, though…

You will need a closer relatively early on if you want someone like Francisco Rodriguez, Bobby Jenks, or Jonathon Papelbon. There are only borderline closers available as you get later and later in the draft.

So, long answer, yes, but here’s my opinion….depending on what number pick you have, I would go:

1. SS (if you have the third pick, Rollins, Reyes, or Ramirez will be there)
2. SP (you could probably end up with someone like Dan Haren or AJ Burnett in the second round…though that might be high for AJ)
3. 1B
4. C (could be a problem if the aforementioned top 5 are gone, but Doumit should still be there)
5. Closer (K-Rod, Papelbon, Jenks, etc. will be gone, but you can still get a closer from a good team…..like Marmol of the Cubs or Fuentes of the Angels)

The rest depends on what position you think you need and who is available.

Best of luck to you in the upcoming season.
