Is this a “Quality Start”?
In baseball, if you go at least 6 innings and give up 3 runs or less, that is a “quality start”. But what if you go past the 6th inning, give up no runs and then give up 4 or more runs in the 7th, 8th, or 9th innings. Does this still give you a quality start even though your linescore indicates you gave up 4 or more runs?
6 IP, 3 ER = Quality Start
8 IP, 4 ER = All 4 runs were given up in 8th inning. < == Quality Start? Yes / No ??
No, it’s not a quality start. No matter how many innings a pitcher pitches, if he gives up 4+ runs it’s not a quality start.
Obviously it doesn’t make a ton of sense, but that’s just how it is.
