* Stepping out of the plate or pulling off pitches – I’ve seen a lot of youth batters do this. The either back up from the plate or let their front side fly open when the pitch comes. Making them drop the bat to their side neglecting the whole reason they are at the plate in the first place.
* Upper Cutting the Pitch – Also known as the “Upper Cut Swing”. This can occur when the batter drops their hands or the back leg collapse; both of these can cause the batter to swing upward at the pitch.

- Stepping Out Of The Plate - Can be corrected by having the batter move his front heel slightly closer to the plate the usual. You may also try a method I do with the soft toss which is “step in and hit” if you have the batter repeat this method with his hitting routine you will see improvement.
- Upper Cutting the Pitch - May be resolved by making sure the batter keeps his hand at the very top of the strike zone. Also make sure the batter does not dip their back side shoulder or drop their hands during the swing.
